Welcome or welcome backmy dear bloggers to my daily blogs. I hope you all are in good health and are having a blast of a day.

People often have a habit of double checking things like switching off the lights of locking the door when you leave. We all do it. But what if you are compelled to check more and more, multiples times, that it can be considered an obsession. And what if everytime you have a doubt about it, your anxiety kicks in to trouble you even more.

OCD, obsessive Compulsion Disorder, comes under anxiety based disorders characterised by these compulsions. Now, these obsessions are recurrent which are mostly unwanted and troublesome as they are tough to get out of your mind. Yes, initially these things are not really very serious, but it can have a serious impact on someone's daily life. OCD affects about 3 % of the population. It usually starts when you are a teen or maybe even from your childhood.

OCD is associated with low levels of serotonin, which is a neurotransmitter that communicates between brain structures and it also helps regulating vital processes including mood, aggression, sleep, hunger, temperature and pain. So by this you can imagine how hard it must be for people with unbalanced levels of serotonin.

OCD is like having a bully stuck in your brain and no one else can see it.

The character, Monica Geller from the very famous sitcom Friends, shows a good portrayal of obsession with cleaning. A very common compulsion is cleaning, which basically branches from an obsession with germs. Another one is checking, usually because they have obsessions that something is unsafe. Sometimes people may feel a compulsion to arrange things into some order  because when they are oit of order, it causes anxiety. Some famous celebs including David Bekham and Howie Mendel suffer from OCD.

Treatment of these obsessions or compulsions, or both, pretty much involve psycho-therapy or/ and medications. The medications are to increase the levels of serotonin in the brain by limiting its absorption. With the right treatment, patients often return to normal daily lifestyle and activities.

Having OCD is like being allergic to life itself. Every walking moment is spent in a state of mental hyper sensitivity.

Knowing that your own brain is lying to you and you cant resist it can be agonizing.

Thank you for reading  so far.
