So, i just recently watched an anime show called Naruto, and i kinda liked it. The main thing in that show was the quantity of characters with awesome plot. In that show, there is a mostly beloved character named Itachi Ichiha. He is a part of The Uchiha clan/ bloodline and these people have an ability to put people under Genjutsu (hallucinations) by the help of the powers of their eyes. And one of them is known as Amaterasu.
But did you know, that many of these characters and abilities are actually from japanese mythology including the nine tail fox, izanami, izanagi, etc. We will be talking about Amaterasu, who is considered as the japanese goddess of the sun.
The gods named izanami and izanagi were responsible for the making of the world. Izanagi, when dove into the sea, many creatures and spiritual entities were born. And Amaterasu was born by Izanami's left eye.
Amaterasu used to live in a sacred cave with some maids and they made clothes for all the gods. Amaterasu wore different cloak every night, the color of which influenced the weather of the coming day.
Everything was fine until, her brother, The storm god Susanoo, decided to wreak havoc on the world. He destroyed every plantation with heavy winds and destroying houses with lightning. By doing so, he was banished to the kingdom of the dead by Izanami. But before leaving, he wanted to visit Amaterasu and he asked to live a few days on her sister's land.
Frustrated by the constant peace in Amaterasu's kingdom, he planned a trick. He summoned a horse just above the maids who made the cloaks, and it fell on the weavers, causing one of them to die by falling on the spear. Filled with rage and sadness, Amaterasu locked herself in her cave by blocking the entrance with a huge rock. Now, without the maintenance of the sun, the world became a terrible place filled with darkness. Even the gods were unable to see, the crops died without sunlight.
The gods went to the cave and played some happy songs in order to cheer Amaterasu. As she peeked through a hole, she saw a mirror and was enchanted by her own image. Without realizing, she was out of the cage and the gods were happy to see her back. She accepted the tribute and forgave Susanoo. She went back to her responsibility of maintaining the sun. And the world came back to a light filled heaven.
