Why I Think Social Media Is Going To Die A *Slow* But *Definite*death

I am not sure if anybody else has observed or is itjust me, but quite a lot of people have been deleting all their posts and preferring to post less on the Sosh. Why is that? What exactly happened? Did lockdown have anything to do with that? Did us investing almost one year to social media during the pandemic, really cause an aversion to it? Like they say, too much of everything also is bad for you. Is that what happened here?

And no, I can’t really say that Social Media isn’t a huge part of our life, but it certainly isn’t what it used to be either. Of course, the very first thing that we do in the mornings after waking up, is checking our phones, or more precisely Social Media(Who missed me while I slept like a dead pig?!? Even though it’s the same everyday-No One!). Of course, the aimless scrolling and checking the ‘stories’ of people is our way of catching up with what’s happening around the globe. Kind of like our dads with the newspapers. But then again, there isn’t that urge to do that the whole day, as it used to, up until well, 3 or 4 years ago. I personally get fed up just after half an hour of this ‘aimless’ scrolling. Did we grow up, or is the content that is provided to us feel as if its already all viewed before? The same trends followed, the same hook steps, the same WhatsApp forwards-this time in video format, the same annoying cliché laughter track, the same ‘two-liner shayaris’ that just seem depressing after a point, some creator or ‘Influenzas’ as they are commonly called, ranting to her phone screen about some ‘first world’ problems she’s facing, ample amount of unnecessary skin show and the list goes on and on and onnnnnn.

People seem to be fed up with even posting on social media nowadays, except for the ‘Social Media Influencers’ that multiplied in almost every Galli- Nukkad and spread like the pandemic, this past year and a half. People nowadays are preferring to carry this mysterious aura around themselves rather than having their entire life spilt out in the open, ready to be accessed by one click of a button. The less people know about me, the better. What led to this? Did we really overdo it,this past year and a half or just got super busy in our work after the pandemic, not having done it for that long and basically just immersed ourselves in work, to be at least productive after whiling away the time for a good year and a half. Or does it just mean that the Social Media, that we have all adored and basically made an integral part of ourselves over the years, is on Life Support, at the mercy of us, who can ‘Pull the plug’ any day. Is it about to die a very slow, but definite death in the years to come? Did we as a race just ‘moved on’ from Social Media and are just using it until the next big sensation would catch our fancy?

I actually don’t have any of the answers but yeah, bet this gets you thinking too.
