1.Kapaleeswarar Temple
It was built by Pallavas in the 7th century at Mylapore, Chennai. The deities are Lord Shiva (kapaleeswarar), Parvati and Goddess Karpagambal. This is one of the beautiful architecture resembles Dravidian style. Maximum footfall is seen during major festivals like Panguni and Arubathimooval. There is a huge tank right behind the temple, where float festival is celebrated every year.
2.Parthasarathy Temple
It is dedicated to Lord Krishna. This is the only temple in Chennai, where different avatars of Lord Vishnue namely, Varaha, Krishna, Narasimha and Rama are worshipped under one roof. Parthasarathy temple has spectacular sculptures, inscriptions and murals dedicated to different events of battle of Kurukshetra.This temple was constructe by Pallavas in 8th century at Triplicane, Chennai.
3. Sri Vadapalani Andavar Temple
This temple is also known as Vadapalani Murugan Temple is dedicated to Lord Murugan and considered as one of the major attractions of Chennai , constructed by Annaswami Nayakar, a devotee of Murugan in 1890, Vadapalani, Chennai. This temple is considered as a divine place for marriages and other religious ceremonies.
4. Kandhakottam
Maari Chettiar in 1915 located this temple at Park Town, Chennai, which is dedicated to Lord Murugan, Kandha Kottam. This temple has huge tank which is called as '"saravanapoigai". Historically says that this temple was founded by two hard working and devout traders of Thiruporur. Here, Lord Murugan is worshipped as a “warrior God”. Along with daily pujas and rituals, there is a special weekly puja organised every thursday, where Jothi Darshanam is shown and Arutperunjothi Agaval is sung by the priests.
5. Kalikambal Temple
Originally located near the sea shore. This temple is dedicated to Kaligambal. It is built by Maratha king Shivaji in 1678, George Town, Chennai. The original worshipping deity was in fierce form, which was replaced by shanta swaroopa or calm and composed form of Goddess Kamakshi.
6. Thirumala Thirupathi Devasthanam Temple
Constructed by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, T. Nagar, Chennai. This temple is famed for maximu footfal especially on Saturdays and during festivals.The entrance porch looks impressive while the shrine of Lord Venkatachalapathi corresponds closely with Lord Venkateshwara in Tirupathi.This temple has marvelous architecture and well designed walls, pillars and gopurams.
7. Ashtalakshmi Temple
Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswati Swamigal in 1974 located this temple at Elliot Beach, Besant Nagar, Chennai. The uniqueness of the temple is that dedicated to Goddess Laxmi and her eight forms, each representing success, prosperity, wealth, offspring, courage, food, bravery, and knowledge. This temple has four floors.
8. Mahalingapuram Ayyappan Temple
This temple was built in 1974 under the guidance of Sri.N.Subramanian Stapathy, Nungambakkam, Chennai. This temple is visited by a large number of devotees, it receives a heavy footfall every month especially in ‘karthigai' month.
9. Shirdi Sai Baba Temple
This temple is located in Mylapore which was build by a devotee called, Narasimhaswam, in memory of the Indian saint Sai Baba of Shirdi at 1952.
10. Arulmigu Ramanatheswarar Temple
This temple was built by Kulothunga Chola in 700 AD,
located in Porur. It is believed that when Lord Rama came was searching for his wife Sita, he found linga of Lord Shiva here and with his guidance he found the direction to Sita.
11. Anjaneya Swamy Temple
The temple is dedicated to Lord Anjaneya, popularly known as Lord Hanuman. The temple has one of the largest Hanuman idols which is 32 feet tall granite statue was constructed from a single layer of rock. This temple is located in Nanganallur, Chennai built in 1995. Large number of devotees and tourists who come here just to see the statue.
12. Chennakesava Perumal Temple
King Vishnuvardhana in 1117 CE build this temple at George Town, Chennai. It is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is also believed that Chennai was named after the name of this temple.
13. ISKCON Temple
This one is newly constructed by International Society for Krishna Consciousness in 2012, Sholinganallur, ECR Chennai.
This temple is dedicated to Radha and Krishna.
