Hello everyone! In this blog is about bindhi……
Bindi or bindī is a mark (ear-ring) worn by Hindu women over their left earlobe. A bindi indicates that the person wears her hair tied up in a bun. In South India, bindis worn on the forehead means that the woman wishes happiness for her future husband.
Bindu is a symbol of Goddess Parvati. Wearing on the forehead or holding on forefinger & thumb signifies good luck & prosperity. It is believed that if you wear bindi on forehead you can increase your wealth & good fortune. Bindi is also known as Jyotishmati, Keshava Nila, Gajalakshmi Lakshmi, Shri Rama's necklaces, Bhudevi, Nagarjuna, Indragopala, Srikrishna and Chandika. Bindi comes in different shapes, colors, sizes and designs.
Bindhi (Bindu) is a Sanskrit word for “pointed”. It is said to have been created as a symbol of spiritual evolution. When looked at from a scientific perspective, Bindi is referred as the center point of the head where both left and right parts meet. In Vedic lore, it was believed that if the Bindu was not properly aligned, then the entire body would be out of balance, resulting in illness, disease, and dis-ease.
Thus, it was considered imperative that the bindu be placed in an optimal position, aligned and balanced so that the individual's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being could thrive.
In modern society, we now know that our heads may be out of whack for much of the time, due to lack of exercise and/or poor posture, but nevertheless, the same principle applies - proper alignment and alignment means good health! By placing bindi on one's forehead, we can align ourselves with the universe and achieve better equilibrium in all aspects of our lives. We can look forward to a more productive day, free of stress, worry, and tension.
We can expect positive results in our personal relationships and work environment. Most importantly, we can expect to experience greater peace and happiness in our own self.
In the traditional Aryan Society, during a marriage ceremony, the husband makes a tilaka or a red dot on his wife's forehead. Bindi could be an extension of the custom practiced by the ancient Aryans. Another connection with the past is in the Indus Valley civilization. Archaeologists have found feminine figures with red marks on their foreheads. These marks could probably be a red Bindi.
