Hindi:
Hindi is the official language of India and is spoken by about 1 billion people throughout the country. Though it has been gaining popularity due to its wide usage in television and online content, it is primarily used between family members. In addition, it is the primary language of Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
English:
English is an international language and is widely spoken across the world, including South Asia. It is the primary second language taught at schools around the world. As well, English is the primary language of the United States and Canada.
Tamil:
Tamil is a Dravidian language belonging to the Southern Indian group. It is also known as Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telegu. It is spoken by more than 50 million people throughout India.
Urdu:
Urdu is a language related to Persian and Hindi. It is mainly spoken in Pakistan and parts of Afghanistan. Most native speakers are bilingual; however, it is not commonly spoken in the rest of India.
Bengali:
Bengali is a language that belongs to the Indo-European language group and is spoken in Bangladesh, Nepal, and India. It is one of the four major languages of West Bengal, along with Hindi, Odia, and Assamese.
Gujarati:
Gujarati is a language belonging to the Indo-Aryan language group and is spoken by approximately 40 million people in Gujarat, India. It is a popular language in western India and is written using Devanagari script.
Marathi:
Marathi is a language belonging to Dravidian language group. It is one of 22 scheduled languages of Maharashtra state. Marathi is spoken by 35 million people in India and is written using Brahmi script.
Kannada:
The Kannada language (also spelled Karnataka or Kanara) is a Dravidianlanguage spoken mainly in the state of Karnataka in south India, where it is the predominant language. It has been described as a standardised version of the medieval Kannada language or dialect, and is the third largest language in the state. It is spoken by approximately 57–65 million people. In Karnataka, Kannada is spoken by 95% of the population, while in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, it is spoken by 96% of the population.
Malayalam:
Malayalam is the eighth most spoken language in the world with approximately 40 million native speakers. It has been given the status of a classical language, being used extensively in literature, poetry and religious discourse. It is also the administrative language of Kerala, the Indian state where it originated, and is co-official with English in the state of West Bengal.
