Fear Of Public Speaking, How Can Overcome It

Hello everyone! In this blog is about public speaking….

Here are some tips that may help you conquer your fear of public speaking…

Prepare yourself ahead of time:

Before any speech, presentation, meeting, interview, etc., think through your topic and plan out what you want to say. Don't wing it; know what you're going to say before you say it. Also, practice your delivery. You don't need to memorize anything, but reading from notes will help keep you on track and give you confidence.

Learn to enjoy it:

Once you know what you're going talk about, be excited and enthusiastic about it instead of dreading it. If possible, watch someone else deliver their speech or presentation first. They may know something you don't. It takes experience and lots of practice to become confident in delivering a speech or presentation, especially in front of others.

Stay relaxed:

While preparing for your speech or presentation, take deep breaths, calm down, and relax. As you start talking, concentrate on your audience and imagine that you are addressing only them. Let everything else fade away. By staying focused, you'll feel calmer, less anxious, and more comfortable.

Know the material:

Read over your speech or presentation thoroughly. Make sure you understand your topic fully. If there is too much information, make sure you cut out unnecessary details to focus on the essentials.

Avoid negative thoughts:

All of us have negative thoughts about ourselves, our careers, our families, and many other topics. Do not let these thoughts consume you. Try to remain optimistic about your life, career, and family. Remind yourself that nothing is perfect, no matter how hard we try to make it appear that way. Instead of dwelling on mistakes, focus on opportunities to improve and learn from past experiences.

Find out what exactly makes you anxious about speaking in public:

Some may be worried about looking stupid or embarrassed when they make a mistake and others might be fearful of making mistakes. Once you identify these things, try to change them. Maybe you can seek out opportunities to practice talking to groups of people. If you find yourself becoming nervous before speaking, take deep breaths and  step away from the audience. When you look at them, don't fixate on their eyes as you imagine how bad they think you are. Instead focus on the person you want to speak to.

Practice telling stories:

Storytelling is something that you naturally do and it's easy to tell a story while sitting down rather than standing up. Try writing short stories with characters and settings that you know well.Or tell the story of a time when something funny happened to you. You'll notice that you're less likely to feel uncomfortable when telling a story versus just giving a lecture or monologue.

Get familiar with the topic:

Researching beforehand is necessary. Take note of who else has spoken on the topic as well as any research papers on it. This will allow you to develop a sense of familiarity and comfortability.
