Vada Pav:
Vada pav is a deep-fried savory snack from Mumbai, India. This dish originated from street vendors who used to cook them using refined oil, cumin seeds and spices, wrapped them in a bread roll and sold them on streets. They are usually served with a side of raita. Though vada pavs can be prepared at home, they require certain ingredients like ghee that may not be easily accessible to everyone.
Aloo Paratha:
India's most popular street food. This dish consists of stuffed flatbread filled with potatoes and peas. It is loved by many across the country. You can easily find roadside vendors selling this meal.
Kachori:
A crispy deep fried ball made from lentil flour. They are usually served with tea/coffee. No doubt they are delicious but do have some calories.
Litti:
Also known as Dosa, these are thin pancake like breads that are prepared using fermented rice batter. There are different varieties and flavors, from sweet to savory. They are often eaten for breakfast with spicy chutneys but can also be consumed at any time of day.
Roti Canai:
Roti canai is a type of flaky, flatbread originating from the state of Tamil Nadu, South India. These breads are traditionally consumed around Holi festival.
Chana Chaat:
Chana chaat is basically chickpeas combined with various ingredients, including onions, tomatoes, potatoes, and green chilies. Here, I’ve tried my hand at making vegan chaats using tofu instead.
Pani puri :
This crispy snack is made by cutting watermelons into small pieces then frying it with chili powder and other ingredients.
Dahi vada:
A deep fried snack prepared from fermented milk product. You can taste yogurt along with spices.
Bhel Puri :
This mouthwatering dish consists of puri (flaky flatbread), spicy mashed potato and chickpeas.
Aloo Tikki :
This dish consists of roasted potatoes stuffed with minced meat like chicken. It can be savory or sweet depending upon how you make it. You can find this street food item in almost all parts of India.
Pav Bhaji :
A deep fried savory stuffed flour & vegetable dish from India prepared using wholewheat flour or roti dough. Served with tomato based chutney & spicy pickle usually containing black mustard seeds..
Samosa:
A sweet pastry stuffed with potatoes.
Rajma chawal :
A famous Punjabi dish that originated before the British rule, consisting of boiled or roasted kidney beans in a spicy gravy made of tomatoes, carrots, onions, fenugreek seeds, cloves and cardamom pods.
pakora:
Deep-fried snack that originated in India; often found as a street food. It is usually dipped into some spicy sauce like tamarind channa. Pakoras are mainly sold in South Indian states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, but can be found in other parts of India too.
