Egg is both Vegetarian and Non-vegetarian food. In India, Egg is considered as a meat product. But the rule of thumb is that if you eat chicken eggs, then they are considered as vegetarian. If you eat other types of eggs like duck eggs, goose eggs, turkey eggs etc., then they are not considered as vegetarian.
Egg is considered vegetarian food since it does not involve any slaughtering of animals. Egg contains high amount of protein, Vitamins and minerals required for human body, including Vitamin A, D, B12, E and K. In addition, it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids which help in preventing heart diseases.Moreover, eggs have been known to improve brain functioning and memory.
Nowadays, egg is becoming popular among vegetarians due to its versatility in cooking. Eggs can be baked, fried, boiled, scrambled, coddled, poached, omelets or even whisked into mayonnaise and salad dressings. Besides these, eggs are often incorporated into dishes to make them tastier; they can be added to soups, stews and sauces. One can easily add eggs to salads, sandwiches, pasta and rice dishes. There are many ways to use eggs in cooking. Topping foods with hardboiled eggs is good for breakfast. You can also put egg yolk on top of pancakes, French toast, waffles and donuts. And if you want to make it special, you can even sprinkle some herbs and spices over the top.
Egg is also widely used in baking products. One simple way to bake a cake is to mix eggs, milk, sugar, butter, vanilla essence and flour together until smooth. After mixing well, pour batter into cake pans and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 25 minutes. Another way to bake cakes is to add eggs to the recipe of banana cream pie.
By using bananas instead of milk, the resulting pies are called banana cream pie.Other types of desserts that use eggs include cheesecake,meringue, angel food cakes, and pound cakes.
Asians generally do not eat eggs except for omelet or fried rice. But in recent years, egg consumption has increased in Asian countries.Now, people in Asia are starting to enjoy the taste of eggs. They are adding eggs to noodles, stir fry, soups, salad dressing, dessert toppings, etc.
Vegetarianism is defined as abstaining from eating meat. While veganism refers to no consumption of products derived from animals, such as dairy, cheese, eggs, honey, leather, wool, silk, fur, bone meal, gelatin and gelatine. These products may be obtained from the slaughter of animals. However, those who choose to follow a vegetarian diet will still eat fish, shellfish and seafood.
