I have been to the Pushkar fair countless times and have taken pictures here ever since the camera came in handy, but in the last few years, it seems that the picture of Pushkar itself has started changing very fast. The bright colors of Pushkar, which I had called 'the fair of colors in my book, were starting to lighten.
It is important to know the journey from spirituality fair to animal fair and then to tourists' fair because now there is a campaign to preserve the living heritage, due to which recently Garba of Gujarat and Durga Puja of Bengal have been included in the World Heritage List.
Steps taken to register Most people know the mythological significance of Pushkar. The 'Pushkar Mahatmya' of Padma Purana tells the religious and spiritual importance of Pushkar. Pushkar is considered Ardh Kumbh and bathing in the lake here on Kartik Purnima became important for the devotees.
That lake was built by Brahma himself, the creator of the universe, who also has a world-famous temple in Pushkar. The halts of the devotees who reached here after traveling for miles with their livestock and buying and selling goods among themselves gradually took the form of a big cattle fair. One thing is certain by the 16th century it had taken the form of a big fair where buyers came from far and wide.
Due to this, the Mughal emperor Jahangir wrote his book 'Tujk-i In 'Jahangiri', this fair of Pushkar was described as the biggest fair of the North-Western region. There is also a Baradari of Jahangir included in the list of the Archaeological Department of India. When foreign tourists started coming, the attraction of the colors of this fair started attracting people from far and wide.
Rajasthan Tourism made arrangements for his stay first in Ajmer and then at Man Mahal in Pushkar. I would like to say that in this era of renaming, the name of that historical building Man Mahal should be returned to him, which was given the name Sarovar. Well, gradually tents began to be set up on the mounds, including one of the former Maharaja of Jodhpur, Gaj Singh.
All in all, the magic of Pushkar had run across Indian tourism. For a few days before and after the Pushkar fair, accommodation was not available in hotels from Delhi to Jaipur. The animal department had taken care of the cattle fair and it would go without saying that camels were a special attraction for the foreigners.
