Mr. Bhatnagar is my neighbor. He is a very good person. Last year he got a grandson and decided to celebrate it. On the last day, the celebration came and he had a grand function. There were great rejoicings in the family. When the function was over all the guests are returned to their homes.

After a day or two, Mr. Bhatnagar found his wife worried. On asking the reason she told him her gold necklace is missing. Mr. Bhatnagar was stunned to hear it. But he was brave enough to withstand the shock. He come to me and told all story. They once again tried to locate the house but it vain.

We thought and thought and decided how to try to solve this problem. 

I told him my plan and he agreed to it. We bought some rice and went to the priest in a temple and got it charmed. Then we went door to door in the neighborhood and gave 5 grains of rice and said who one had stolen the necklace, touch the rice would faint in an hour. We found that one of our neighbors threw it immediately.

We pointed it out. We told him that we would report the matter to the police. Hearing these words he fell to our feet and returned the necklace. He felt extremely sorry for it. Thus we were able to detect the lost necklace. Mr. Bhatnagar called me a detective and “thank you” me a lot.

Role of a detective in police:-

According to the advanced learners' dictionary, a detective is a person whose business is to detect criminals. Thus, a detective has an important place in the police which has the responsibility to maintain law and order in society. The police do so by preventing, detecting, investigating crime, and prosecuting criminals.

A detective has a role to play in the prevention, detection, and investigation of crime. By falsely mixing with and winning the confidence of the criminal elements, a detective is able to forewarn the police about the possible criminal acts of such people. 

Thus he helps the prevention of crime. In the case a crime has been committed, he help in the detection of the criminals. Through his connection with them, he is able to track down the real culprits and bring them to book. Similarly, a detective helps in gathering profs against criminals as well as in finding out the motives behind the crime.

In short, it can be said that a detective is no less than an eyes and ears to the police. without him, the police will be only blind and deaf.
