Vikram Review :

Lokesh kanagaraj put together a spy-filled world of kamal Hashan's 1986 movie vikram and his own 2019 movie kaithi. the universe without actually jumping into it. it unravels the mysteries of the spy movies and provides some of the thrill of action movies, but its does not completely satisfy or leave the adrenaline rush promised by such highly ambitious movies. the film begins with interest when karnan(Kamal Hashan),  the father of the martyred police officer  prapanchan(Kalidass Jayaram) is killed . we learn that there are many such killings and a group of masked men claim responsibility and call it their war against the system. police Cheif Jose(Chamban Vinod Jose) brought in black ops team led by Amar(Fahath Fashil), who began delve into karnan's life. the prime suspect is sandhanam(vijay sthupathy), a terrifying drug trafficker with a large family looking to ship raw materials that could turn him into a kingpin. amar, on other hand, is confused by many versions of karnan. was he an alcoholic father mourning the loss of son, femininity , or more? more importantly, is he dead or alive? vikram works best in the first half, as amar and his team understand the killings and try to track down the murderers. these parts contains very little kamal hashan, but always feel his presence, both as a charecter and as actor . from nayagan to anbe sivam kamal's work have nods, and discovering them offers some small thrills. the actor who is in action star mode here also has a moment to whistle, which leads to a pause. And Vijay Sethupathi seems to be  playing a ruthless villain, resuming where he was interrupted by the master. But once the easytoguess mystery around Karnan is cleared, the narrative becomes rather straight faced. A small bunch of cops should hold out against an army of gangsters. It`s similar to what we got in Kaithi, but here, it is less effective.  To his credit, Lokesh tries to provide an emotional undercurrent, with a subplot involving Karnan and Prapanchan`s baby, but it isn`t affecting enough. And the arcs involving Amar and Sandhanam, too, turn predictable. Fahadh`s Amar gets more or less written off while Vijay Sethupathi comes across as trying too hard. Narain, as Bejoy, the honest cop from Kaithi, is also given the short shrift. Even the muchpublicised cameo by Suriya, which acts as a setup for the next installment in the `Lokesh Kanagaraj Universe`, is a tad underwhelming.  The action scenes, while solidly choreographed, never leave us with.
