One of the biggest myth about taj mahal is that mughal emperor shah jahan cut off the hands of labour's and builders so that they can not built another memorable monument like this. But no proof or evidence has founded over the past years which can prove this incident. This is the biggest myth that has been spread almost in everyone's mind, and especially in the stories of grandma.
It us a popular myth and also a fact that shah jahan was first interested to built a black taj mahal, this fact was first founded in the writings of an European traveler. But yhe use of white marbles in every single part of structure clearly proves that it is completely a myth.
One of the biggest untold truth is that taj mahl was built only in one night. Almost everyone has heard the fact that the structure was built in one night by your grandma but I wanna tell you that taj mahal over 12 years to built completely and around 22,000 labours with 1000 elephants made construction of taj mahal possible.
In his book, Taj Mahal: The True Story, P. N Oak claims that the Taj Mahal was originally a Shiva temple and a Rajput palace named Tejo Mahalaya seized by Shah Jahan and adopted as a tomb. In 2000, India’s Supreme Court dismissed P. N. Oak’s petition which he filed for court to accept his claim. It was assumed by him that taj mahl was built by jai Singh.
It is a popular myth between the Indian people that British governor general lord Bentick tried to sold the marbles of this structure and also tried to demolish taj mahl during 1830's. But In fact, it is Bentinck’s biographer John Rosselli who confirmed that the story arose from Bentinck’s fund-raising sale of discarded marble from Agra Fort.
