World Voice Day is celebrated on April 16 and was decreed by the Federation of Otorhinolaryngology Societies to raise awareness of the importance of the voice.

What is aphonia?

Hoarseness is a disorder that causes loss of voice. This can happen slowly or suddenly and can be due to different causes. It directly affects the vocal cords. In general, if a person screams, this condition is most likely to appear, however, there are cases where aphonia is linked to problems or damage in the larynx area and that can be the result of some disease.

What is dysphonia?

Another voice disorder is called dysphonia, which can be due to misuse of the voice that causes inflammation or irritation of the vocal cords, which can cause damage or injuries that turn into nodules or polyps. This is most cases that occur among singing professionals or people who need a voice to perform their jobs.

The voice represents the main means of communication through which people express thoughts and emotions. It is a tool that allows us to be in contact with others and thus create personal relationships. In today's hectic world, many people suffer from voice-related disorders, especially those who have a habit of smoking or who necessarily need a voice to practice a certain profession. For this reason, it is worth visiting the ENT as a preventive measure to avoid future damage to the vocal cords.

The voice is one of the most important communication resources between human beings, that is why it is necessary to take care of it and in this way avoid injuries or damages, which over time may be irreversible.

Avoid talking too much. But only what is necessary so that the voice does not get too tired. Do not speak in places where the noise is very loud, since in general, when this happens, people tend to scream. Something common in people is the habit of constantly clearing the throat, this can be harmful to the vocal cords. Avoid using cigarettes. It is advisable to keep the vocal cords hydrated. For this, you can drink plenty of fluids during the day.

How to celebrate World Voice Day?

To celebrate World Voice Day, we invite you to take advantage of this date to make responsible use of your voice, avoiding those things that may represent a risk, such as the use of harmful substances such as tobacco or speaking very loudly. so as not to damage your vocal cords.
