The great news is that the central government is buying 1.5 lakh Oxycare systems from the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO). 

The government will spend Rs 322.5 crore for it. This device will help deliver oxygen from the cylinder. Through the Oxycare system, oxygen is delivered from the cylinder, depending on the SpO2 level in the patient's blood. 

This new technology will stop the wastage of oxygen. It will also reduce the workload on health workers. Once you start using Oxycare, health workers will no longer need to visit the covid patient to check for oxygen flow. 

Until now, health workers have controlled how much oxygen flow a patient needs when using medical oxygen. But with the new Oxycare system, depending on the level of SpO2 in the patient's blood, oxygen will be regulated automatically. Is not it a great invention?

Oxycare is used to supply oxygen to the Indian Army at higher altitudes. "This robust system, made in India for use in all types of environments, can easily be used for Covid-19 patients," the statement said. There are two variants of the Oxycare system. 

The first variant has a 10 liter cylinder, a pressure regulator and flow controller, a humidifier and a nasal cannula. Oxygen flow will be manually controlled depending on the SpO2 readings. 

In the second configuration the oxygen cylinder will be connected to an electronic control. Oxygen flow will be controlled manually depending on the patient's SpO2 level. 

According to the Center, 1 lakh manual units and 50,000 automatic Oxycare systems are being procured. Non-ribbon masks will also be purchased at the same time. 

What are the benefits of using Oxycare - 

The use of the SpO2 based Oxycare system will enable the patient to continue to receive the right amount of oxygen, which will prevent his wastage during a nationwide oxygen crisis. 

The use of this system will greatly reduce the workload on health workers. 

 Once the Oxycare system is used, health workers do not have to visit the patient repeatedly to control the flow of oxygen. 

It will also be possible to save 30-40 percent oxygen as a result of using a non-rebreather mask. 

Although a separate mask must be used for each patient. However, this system can be used not only for Covid-19 patients who are on oxygen support not only in the hospital but also at home. Oxycare will also be used at various Covid Care Centers, including Safe Home.
