Know About Some Common Pesticides
In this modern time, the farmer can't imagine agriculture without pesticides but it doesn't mean that it is not possible while many states in India and many countries adopt organic agriculture. In India, Sikkim is the first state which adopts organic agriculture.
So if agriculture is possible without pesticides why we use them because of high production and instant results. or we can say for high population in our country and it is important to feed them. so we require high production in small land without any damage.
let's know about some common pesticides
In simple defination Pesticides is a solution which protect crop from harmful pest and unwanted plants which damage the crop growth and production. we use pesticides in store grains to protect from rodents.
pesticides such as-:
- insecticide- they use to kill insect. e.g. rogor, confidor
- herbicide- they use to destroy unwanted plants. e.g. glyphosate
- rodenticides- they use to kill rodents which damage the storage of food. e.g. ratonil
- fungicides- they use to kill fungi. e.g thiram, mencozeb, vitavax
- larvicides- they use to kill the larva. e.g. oberon
some most common pesticides with their trade name used in agriculture
- dicofol 18.5 EC- Kelthane
- Endosulfan 35EC- thiodan
- carbaryl 75WP- Sevin ( Note- bhopal gas tragedy occurred on 3rd dec. 1984 in union carbide of India at bhopal. this company manufactures methyl isocyanate which used in the production of carbayl)
- aluminum phosphide- celphos
- imidaclopride - confidor 17.8 SL
- dimethoate - rogor
lets talk about some organic pesticides
- Nicotinoid - it manufacture by tobacco plant. Nictotine is a contact and nerve poison which affect mainly soft body insects.
- Pyrethroids - its main source is white flower of guldaodi. it is powerful insecticide which rapidly paralysed the housefly.
- Rotenone - its main source is roots of leguminous plants. insect poisoned with rotenone show steady decline in oxygen consumptionwhich followed by paralysis and death.
- Raynia -it is derived from ground roots and woody stems of south American shrub.it is a stomach and contact poison and effective against insect.
- Sabadilla -it is derived from seeds of tropical lilly. this is used for control housefly and domestic insects.
- Margosa - it makes kernal of neem tree posses extraordinary gusatory repellant properties. the commercial neem insecticides available in market are based on neem seed kernal extract. like neemazal, achook, etc. and they are very sensitive to UV light.
