Midan means an open field or open ground. It is the largest urban park in Kolkata, West Bengal. It can also referred as Brigade Parade Ground. The Maidan is about 1000 acres in area and an open ground, where the football, cricket and hockey fields are located. It is a cultural and historical as well as leisure center of Calcuttans. The Maidan is surrounded by the historical spots like Fort William, Victoria Memorial, Esplanade and none other than Eden Gardens .
3. VICTORIA MEMORIAL
Ultimate beauty of Kolkata is Victoria Memorial. Queen Victoria died in 1906, the construction of the monument in his memory began in Calcutta, the then capital of India. Construction of the Victoria Memorial was completed in 1921.This year marks the centenary of this monument. Many people called it by Taj Mahal of Kolkata. The Taj Mahal really bears a striking resemblances to this. Like the Taj Mahal , it is also built of Makrana marble from Rajasthan. This style of building is a combination of British and Mughal Architecture.And it is also known as Indo-sarasenic revival architecture. The black fairy rotates according to the direction of wind because it has ball bearings and mercury on the floor. The monument is actually a museum. The number of galleries here is 25. Victoria's garden is a free zone for kolkata lovers. This garden is made up of 64 acres of land.
4. Mallick Ghat :
Mallick Ghat is situated in Kolkata and it is the biggest flower market in Asia. It is located on the banks of hoogly river and very close to the Howrah Bridge. The market is operating on and around 125 years.
5. Princep Ghat :
princep Ghat is one of the most spectacular historical monuments in Kolkata. It is one of the oldest ghats in kolkata on the banks of Ganges. The enchanting monuments near to the Princep Ghat railway Station is adorned with the second Hoogly bridge. you can spend a winter morning in this ghat.
