Fahad Fasil starrer Irul released on Netflix from 2 April 21. The 90 minutes run time film was directed by Naseef Yusuf Izuddin. This simple star cast consist of three characters Fahad Fazil , Soubin shahir and Darshana Rajendran. Since the duration was too short I’d like this review to be a non spoiler one.
Alex (Soubin ) a Novel writer took his girlfriend Archana (Darshana) for a weekend trip. They both got stucked half way in the trip. When they search for any help in nearby house they found Unni (Fahad). The plot gets turn when both Alex and Fahad found a mysterious thing in the basement and what happened next is this fast paced thriller.
Positives first, Milk is white and Fahad gives 200 percent at what he does. The different variations he shows in the short duration of 90 minutes shows how matured actor he was. He cheats us with his acting skills is what make easily predictable story line unpredictable. Half of the movie his hands were tied and face towards the floor even though dialogue delivery is so genuine in what he delivers.
Soubin Shahir purely delivers what he meant to deliver and he is so believable in his acting skills. The way he shows his nervousness and confusion mindset is so believable. The character Alex is totally different from what he did in Kumbalanji nights and Android Kunjappan. He proves that he is a versatile actor.
I’ve seen Darshana Rajendran in Tamil web series “ Ctrl Alt Del “ long back but she justifies her role through her acting. Since the main plot is running around these three characters she proved her acting against the talented actors like Fahad and Soubin.
Even though this fast paced short thriller gives you the feel of nail bitting scenarios the main plot have some loop holes. The whole story makes you feel like ended in a hurry where many questions remain untold. The plot is familiar however the story telling makes it interesting till the end. But the led down was felt when we realise that the makers were in a hurry to rush and put it an end.
The Technical aspects of the movie are in top notch. The cinematography is so nice that it brings both the feeling of rain in the dark at the same time. BGM is the one that makes some goosebumps moments whenever there is a close-up shot near actor’s reactions. Even the set design brings you a feeling of haunted house in most of the ghost movies.
Inspite of the top notch performance from the actors the weak story line makes the movie an average film. Since the duration is very less we can watch it for the performances done by Fahad Fasil and Soubin Shahir.
IRUL (Darkness) is a Dark fast paced short thriller for Malayalam movie lovers and Fahad Fazil Fans.
