On 28 June, the Hornets of New Orleans choose Davis with the first overall selection
As per the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement, Davis signed a three-year guarantee deal with Hornets on 24 July 2012 of $16 million.
Davis debuted against the Spurs of San Antonio on 1 November 2012. In a losing campaign, he scored a team of high 21.
Davis confirmed that he was not in line for a “stress response” on his knees on November 20.
The 2013 NBA All-Star Game weekend was attended by Davis on February 15, 2013, the Rising Stars Challenge.

which would allow Davis to join a free agency where he would receive a max $202 million deal over five years in the next summer.
