Kolkata has always fascinated artists and music lovers with its aura and charm. The city soaks you into its old-world charm. Apart from the religious and fun side of the metropolitan, the city also has a spooky character. There are stories about haunted and cursed places in the city

I also read about one such monument, the National Library, and decided to visit there and see what happens. With the rush of adrenaline in my body, my friend and I boarded the bus to National Library. We reached there, crossed the road, and got inside the library. It was a beautiful white monument standing on strong ancient Roman kind of pillars. We made our entry in the register over there and marched towards the library complex. In front of the main gate, there was a structure where the renovation work was going on. That building was home to Warren Hastings, the first Governor-General of East India Company. It is believed that his ghost still haunts the place. 

We reached the main library complex and got inside. The library had many books and some readers. Before planning my visit to the library, I had read many haunting stories about the place. I had high hopes about an encounter with the ghost. I almost spend an hour in that place but could not sense anything unusual. The place was calm and people were busy reading their books. Having felt nothing strange, we decided to quit the library. 

While departing, I tried to encounter the guard and see if he had felt something unusual there. He replied that nothing has happened to him but, one of his companions witnessed something out of the way. One of the guards heard noises of yelling and crying at a distance, followed by the sound of an anklet. It appeared to him as someone was dancing inside the library complex at night. Hearing this story gave us goosebumps and, we decided to take the bus back to our place. 

Recalling this incident made me feel that I am reliving all those memories. I continued my visits to other spooky places and gained some experience with every visit. The visit to the library was indeed a memorable event for me. Still while writing, I can imagine everything in front of my eyes. Kolkata has always been close to my heart and I have enjoyed it thoroughly over there.
