The Constitution of INDIA, provides us numerous rights as our fundamental rights. Every citizen of India irrespective of their gender, caste, religion have these rights. Men and women of the society enjoy equal rights.
But what women don't get is the Right To Safety. In recent times, we have heard and seen a lot of cases on women facing domestic and sexual harrassment, unfair behaviour at workplace, misbehavior at public places and even rape cases. I personally feel very ashamed of coming through these cases everyday. I fear of in which direction is our society progressing. Here, arises a question in my mind, “Shouldn't girls demand for their RIGHT TO SAFETY”? There are many provisions, rules and punishment when these offences are done. But we have seen that those provisions haven't controlled these offences.
Why should we wait for the crime to be done? Why shouldn't we take steps that will prevent and stop these offences to make a safer and better society for women?
I am sharing some of my ideas on how we can do so :-
(1.) Start training girls from their schools and colleges They can be trained with martial arts and self defence techniques. This should be made mandatory for educational institutions as well as for girls. It should be included in their co-curricular activities.
(2.) We can take the help of our armed forces for training girls and women in both rural and urban areas. Campaigns and workshops regarding this should be arranged so that it reaches to a large population of women.
(3.) Companies and workplaces that take the services of women should make this sure that women working at their place are trained.
(4.) We can appoint task forces monitoring these mishappenings by taking quick and strict actions.
(5.) Our judiciary must make more strict rules and punishments against these offences.
In our elections, we get fake promises of good road, electricity and water supply, employment s etc. But our political leaders ignore “women safety and protection”. Its a request from girls that please come ahead at the time of elections and ask our political leaders that what is their agenda on women safety?
I trust that we can make a better society where women hold the supreme power and are safe and secure. This will make a balance in our society and it will collectively help in the progress of our country.
