A Women is that creation of God that is believed to be very strong internally, whether it be physically or mentally. Whether in grief or in happiness. No matter what the conditions are women have always proved that they are strong. But how bad can a situation be? Will a women still able to be strong and positive. Given, the situation is performing the last rites of her husband or beloved.
Recently, we saw the death of one of our Bollywood star's husband. I would not mention her name here. We have seen viral pictures of her performing the last rites of her husband. But there was one image that went viral presening infront of us the changing image of the status of a women in our male dominated society. What? A woman lighting her husband's dead body on his pure? A women doing the last rites of her beloved one? This might be the question in the mind of many people in our society.
Wake up people, it is the same India that not so long ago endorsed βsatiβ- a most cruel tradition sanctioned y our society.
The same society that still burns young brides for not bringing enough dowry, the same society that looks the other way during so-called honour killings.
Today's reality is significantly different to earlier times when women were forced to give birth to a son so that he takes part in the last funeral rights of his father. So many women have committed suicide as they failed to bear a son. Too many women were killed as they were unable to do this. But the time is changing now. Women are coming forward and taking part in all kind of spiritual events like the last rites.
Bravo! women for breaking convention which says only male members of a Hindu family can participate in funeral rites. It was erroneously believed that women were too sensitive and weak to withstand the grim trail that marks Hindu funeral still today.
Now the time has come for us to change. Change your thinking on the role of women that they play in our society. We should not create hurdles in their way to development. Hurdles that includes physically and mentally challenging tortures or spirituals. Give them more and more chances show that our society develops with proper pace where every citizen whether it be a man or woman get equal rights and equal respect.
