Welcome back, gentle readers. In this blog, I came up with a story of two young people.
In our low-middle-class family, parents spent most of their resources on education. So, post-graduation, the pressure comes on children for earning.
Sumon is twenty-four trying to search for a job. He came to know from one of his friends about an interview at a water purifier company. About thirty individuals appeared for the interview. Sumon was selected for the job.
The territory of his work was from north of Kolkata to Barasat. Twice to thrice in the week he had to travel to Barasat by local train.
He booked a monthly ticket. Slowly he got accustomed to other co-passengers. Some of them work in banks, a few in educational institutions, and others in offices of different capacities. Out of them were two young teachers. Both of them were very jovial. They used to chat a lot between themselves. Sumon notices everyone silently.
His mind was full of new work experience and responsibilities. One day the train was unusually crowded. One of the teachers remained stranded and sweating profusely. Sumon let her sit on his seat. The girl acknowledged him with a warm smile.
From there onwards, Sumon used to keep seats for the girls with his bag. One of them with a cloudy complexion and meaningful eyes befriended the young man. She is named “Nilanjana.”. They used to chat on a lot of topics ranging from cinema to sports.
On the birthday of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore, the girls were dressed in sarees. They were supposed to sing at a ceremony at their school. By that time, they were following each other on social media. As time passed, they were drawn close to each other.
Nilanjana was a trained singer in classical and Rabindra sangeet. Whenever she is in a good mood, she sings to express her joy. Sumon’s heartbeat increases with the sweet songs of Nilanjana. Sumon does not know singing, but he had an interest in writing poems and short stories. On one lazy Sunday, Nilanjana and Sumon spent hours over the phone. It was raining outside. The girl sang songs of Monsoon, intervened by recitation of poems by Sumon.
In the following month, a tragedy struck the city. A young girl was brutally murdered in her workplace. City of Joy busts in protest. A midnight march was arranged in protest of the tragic incident. Nilanjana and Sumon took part in the protest march. The two youngster held one of their hands together, and they raised their free hand in the sky.
Nilanjana is an emotional girl; that night she narrated her every-day ill experience to Sumon. They both cried together.
