Scarlet Heart Ryeo is a drama that many viewers love the Korean stage. I honestly couldn't count how many times it was recommended to me, and despite airing in 2016, it's still hugely popular. Female artist IU was also praised for her quality acting. But, historical Korean can always succeed or fail for me as I tend to lose interest in it pretty quickly. Scarlet Hear Ryeo impresses me and is it worth watching? CROOK!
PART 1
Scarlet Heart Ryeo tells the story of twenty-five-year-old Go Ha-Jin (IU), who is transported back in time to the Goryeo dynasty. She then awakens in Lady Hae Soo's body and finds herself among the ruling princes of the Wang Family. However, Hae Soo ends up having an affair with several princes and gets caught up in a political web and the princes' battle for the throne.
Although I haven't seen many Korean historical dramas, Scarlet Heart Ryeo makes it relatively easy to fall into the Goryeo era. However, the film does have a fair bit of romantic intrigue embedded within. It's basically what my friend calls a "love pentagon", at least 4 princes are romantically involved with Hae Soo while the others find their own love preferences. So, following Scarlet Heart Ryeo becomes a bit difficult because there are so many relationships inside the movie and there is not enough time to develop them all. For example, Chae Ryungs and the 9th relationship with Prince Wang Won were basically put into the mix just to make it more appealing. This is because he has a relatively small role in the plot and goes unnoticed. But despite the many plot lines, Hae Soo and Wang So's love story is clearly the center of attention with a fiery, intense and slow-paced relationship. While it's easy to predict that you'll both be romantically embracing, that shouldn't stop you from screaming.
But what Scarlet Heart Ryeo excels at is the way he sets up the palace as a place of danger, betrayal, and murder. It is designed to be a place where Hae Soo must hide if she wants to survive. But for the Princes, it was a place were must either kill or killed to survive.
IU, Scarlet Heart's Ryo, who has been praised for his outstanding acting skills many times, will play the main role of Hae Soo / Ha Jin and fully demonstrate his ability. Hess faces the challenge of adapting to an entirely different era, trying to capture the attention of the princes, and thwart a terrifying and scary storyline. Hae Soo is a good-natured character who has many comedic moments as well as dramatic emotional ones. IU has successfully captured each of these moments. Especially when Hess struggles to leave the palace or stay by Once's side as promised. However, there were times when I could question some of the decisions that frankly didn't make sense. Why does she have to go after Wang Su when she knows so little about him? It's pretty strange how quickly she can adapt to everything, and how her confusion and shyness lasted only one episode.
Wang Su
This is an outstanding character from the series played by Lee Joon Gi and an incredibly talented actor who convinced me to keep an eye on him in future dramas! It is a character that possesses, and Lee Joon-gi breathed life into each layer. He craves his mother's affection and his wounds make him neglected by his brothers. It can take some time to settle into Wang So's characterization, as he tends to switch between anxious, cold, and fearful at the same time. Lee Joon-gi was able to change Wang So's personality almost perfectly and conveyed his lines with great intensity. His aura can literally be felt on screen and you'll find most of the scenes give you goosebumps.
My most favourite drama. I recommend you all to must watch these. And please share your thoughts on this drama!!
