It's well known that "an educated mind is better than an empty one". It all starts when we get admitted to school and we hope to make our lives better through it. Education is a way to ameliorate our lives and it is a tool in the hands of humans to save and improve the lives of others as well.
India had a rich education system in ancient times, with many gurus whose names are still known in the modern era. And India saw the establishment of many universities in ancient India, like Takshashila, Nalanda, etc.
When India was colonized, the EIC had no interest in India's education system for the first 60 years because it was primarily a trading company.
When EIC was getting hold on adminstration of India, then britishers thought to improve the education system of India for the favour of their own interest. Many reforms came like Macaulay report, sadler commission, Sargent commission etc.
Post independence Indian education started penetrating to masses of India. And now most of us have an opportunity to get it.
By simple definition: “the teaching or training of people, especially in schools." This definition can go to a large extent like this: “ Education is a purposeful activity directed at achieving certain aims, such as transmitting knowledge or fostering skills and character traits. These aims may include the development of understanding, rationality, kindness, and honesty.
Mere learning facts and passing the exams of school and university is not education; it's a weapon that builds the character of one person. True education makes us humble and increases the thinking capacity of an individual (not overthinking) in many dimensions.
“A human is a social animal.”
There are many aspects of getting education for some people it's a tool of getting job. For some it's a way to bring some changes.
Everyone has his or her own opinions about this. If we think out of box then education is an instrument for personal development, character development, to bring prosperity, compassion and imbibe good values in principles.
Merely getting a degree or marks isn't education, it should reflect in deeds and words as well.
"If we want to see peace in this world, then we should educate each child."
Yes, this world has many problems like civil wars, poverty, discrimination and exploitation, hunger, and many children die every year without basic needs, and education is a basic need for a human after food, clothing, and shelter. If students get it properly, then they can eradicate the problems of the world with their consciousness and knowledge.
Does everyone in India have access to education? Most likely not! What can a state do in this situation?Article 21A of the Indian constitution makes education compulsory for children who are in the 6–14 age group. And DPSPs also direct the state to make an endeavour in this direction.
But if we go into tribal lands, we can see many children don't have access to proper education, especially girls. Even in the modern era, a few masses still have an outdated mentality. What's the need to provide education to girls? It's mandatory to give education to girls, and we have already seen many examples in which girls have made the nation proud through their skills. We must leave this redundant mentality and work for progress.
India spends only 1% of its GDP on the education sector and only 0.7% on research and development, which is not a good indicator. India should increase its expenditures in this sector, as all developed countries have a high GDP share in education.
Providing education can't create an egalitarian society immediately, but it can make a happy society where people will be compassionate towards others. They will be able to understand the problems and pains of others. It will develop class consciousness and everyone will be united for the sake of knowledge and wisdom. A child will get a new life, a girl will get a new world, a man will understand the construction of the world and many more. Be educated, be strong, and be happy.
