We have become so dependable on our smartphones and smart gadgets that they have become an inseparable part of our life. Evolution of smart gadgets like smart watches, laptops etc. have made our life so easy that it has become impossible to imagine a day in our life without them.
Internet have made the world into a global village. Every part of the world is now accessable ny means of internet. During this pandemic we could realise how much our life has become dependent on these smart gadgets.
The only form of education, business or administration that has been possible during this harsh period is through online mode. Most of the meetings, teaching-learning, trades etc. are done over internet using these smart technologies. Most of the sectors would not have been able to withstand the pressure of pandemic had there been no access to Internet these days.
During complete lockdown when we had nothing much to do sitting at home, we were hooked to our phone screens to get some entertainment and spend time.
But like every coin has two faces, use of Internet also has another side to it and we choose not to give much importance to the scary side. While using these gadgets we store so many datas in them. But are they safe enough in them? Is it possible that they are sharing our data with any third party source?
Whenever we download any app from play store, we have to give them so many permissions like to read our messages, our contacts, view photos or videos. If we deny giving permissions these apps don't function properly . Most apps don't even work without privacy permission.
But why do they need all these permissions? What do they do with our data. We customers are never made aware regarding this.
We often get phone calls from unknown sources claiming to be calling from some bank or insurance companies. But when we never gave them our phone numbers , where did they get our numbers from? Do the apps we allow to read our messages and contacts trade these information with third party without our consent?
We have seen that recently cyber crimes have increased many fold. People often get fraud calls asking for atm pins or Otps. Question is where do they get our numbers from?
Our government should give clear guidelines as to the users should also have the right to choose whether they want to give them permission to invade their privacy or not.
