Special Food For Festival Time

Today i am going to tell about thoran ( sabji ). It is basically from kerala dishes. Normally they make vegetable thoran like french beans - carrot, cabbage - carrot, beetroot, etc…. But now i am tell you a different type thoran.

Today our recipe is PRAWNS THORAN. It is an amazing flavour stir fried prawns kerala style with coconut and shallots ( small onion ). In kerala ESTER festival time they are make very special dishes at home , hotel, etc... So my suggestion is that time correct to try this dish at your home with family and friends.

INGREDIENTS

  • 500 gm of small size prawns cleaned.
  • 300 gm of shallots slice.
  • 50 gm of coconut pieces.
  • 50 ml of coconut oil.
  • 10 gm of mustard seeds.
  • 3 nos. of Whole dried red chilly.
  • Few of Curry leaves.
  • Salt to taste.

FOR THORAN PASTE

  • 100 gm of grated coconut.
  • 5 gm of turmeric powder.
  • 10 gm of chilly powder.
  • 15 gm of black pepper corn.

PREPARATION METHOD

  • Thoran paste all ingredient put in a blender and grind to a coarse paste with out water. Keep aside.
  • Wash the prawns. Keep aside.
  • Take a pan put coconut oil and heat it.
  • Add mustard seed, dried chiily, curry leaves and coconut pieces, saute for 2 mins.
  • Then add sliced shallots and salt, saute for 4 mins.
  • After that add cleaned prawns and thoran paste. Cover with lid. And Cook for 4 to 5 mins in slow flame.
  • Then remove the lid. Mix well and check the seasoning.
  • Ready to serve.
  • Enjoy Rice and Chappati.

ABOUT KERALA TRADITIONAL FOOD

Kerala is famous for its sadhya. Sadhya served at time of onam. Onam is a hindu festival. This time they are make boiled rice and different type of vegetable dishes. And they are serve dishes on banana leaf. Kerala cuisine also had lot of sea food like fish, prawns, mussels, squid, crab, etc. Because of it long coastline.
