Nowadays, diabetes is a major headache for most people. Diabetic patients are making various efforts to control their blood sugar levels. One of the most important of them is diet. Many people are confused about what food to eat and what not to eat. So now let's have a look at the list of best foods for diabetics.

All the food we eat is converted into glucose. Glucose is needed to carry out many functions in our body. Meanwhile, basic functions such as respiration and growth do not take place in cells without glucose. The role of allowing glucose into the cells is carried out by the hormone insulin.

Chia seeds

Foods that are high in fiber and good fats. It is a kind of seed. You can eat these by soaking them in water for some time and adding some milk. Or you can eat guava with soaked chia seeds.

flax seeds

These seeds are high in fiber. It can be fried well and taken as a snack. Or you can fry it, grind it into powder and add it to idli dough, soup, sambar etc.

Beans

Beans are high in fiber. Although beans, especially black beans, contain carbohydrates, they also contain high amounts of protein, fiber and other minerals, so they offer a low glycemic index score.

Horse-tail Millet

Small grain foods can be fried, sprouted, fermented... in idli, appam, pongal, upma etc. These types of food items contain more vitamins, more protein, fiber and minerals than the rice we normally consume. So these help keep glucose under control.

Foods to Avoid:

1. Avoid eating packaged and processed foods. This is because they are high in carbohydrates and low in fiber. These are harmful to the body.

2. Maida and corn flour – both of them have no fiber. And when these are prepared, all the nutrients are removed. Thus most of the nutrients are available to us after loss. So avoid these too.

3. Eating too much sugar, jaggery or palm sugar can raise blood sugar levels. So avoid them.

4. Beef, mutton and pork are classified as red meat. These foods are high in cholesterol, which can clog the arteries and lead to heart disease.

5. Ham is a type of cured meat. These are meats that are high in fat and high in sodium. This can cause heart damage. As India is already the capital of the world in heart disease, avoid such foods and consume foods that are low in salt and have the right amount of fat.

5. Fruits like mango and jackfruit increase blood sugar levels. You should definitely avoid taking it as it is, juice or milkshake.
