  • Genetics: Genetics play a crucial role in allergies, stating that if one or both parents have allergies, there's a good chance that you might too. It’s not always the same allergy, but your immune system may be more likely to react strongly to certain triggers.
  • Environment: When and how you grow up plays a role. Kids who grown up on farms or around pets tend to have fewer allergies than those raised in ultra clean environments, a theory known as the “hygiene hypothesis”
  • Age & Exposure: Allergies can develop at any age, sometimes after exposure to a substance, your immune system suddenly decides it doesn’t like it anymore – even if you have been fine with it for years.
