WHAT IS DIY?

It's a way to build, modify or repair things yourself, without the direct help of an expert or certified expert. In academic research, do it yourself is an action that individuals use raw and half - life materials and parts to create , transform or reconstruct possessions of materials, including those derived from the natural environment.

Do it Yourself behavior was previously market motivation and strengthening of identity. It can be caused by various motives that were classified as pursuit, uniqueness.

HISTORY:

Italian archaeologists have unearthed the remains of Greek architecture in the 6th century BC. It was excavated in Southern Italy. The ruins seem to come with detailed assembly instructions and are called the old IKEA building.

The building was a temple like Building found in Torresatoriano near the city of Potenza in southern Basilicata. The area is recognized  as a mixture of Greeks and locals who have settled since the 8th century BC. South Coast and Sicily known as Magna Graecia. 

Professor Christopher Smith, director of the British school in Rome, said the finding was the clearest example of evidence of masonry of the era ever discovered .Similar to modern instruction manuals, various sections of luxury buildings were labeled with coded symbols and inscriptions to show  how the parts were snapped.

They date back to the 6th century. It is consistent with the architectural evidence suggested by the decoration in BC. The building was built by Greek artisans from the Spartan Colony of Taranto in Apulia. 

In north America, there was a niche for publishing DIY magazines in the first half of the 20th Century. Magazines such as Popular Mechanics and Mechanics Illustrated have useful practical skills , techniques and tools as many readers lived in rural or semi- rural areas. It provided readers with a way to keep the material up to date. The materials initially meet their needs on farms and small towns.

In the 1950s, home refurbishment became popular as people began to engage in home renovation projects, construction projects and small transactions. The artist began the battle between mass production and popular culture by claiming  to be home made.

However, DIY practice is the dark aesthetics and nihilism of punk fanzine since the 1970s in the shadow of geopolitical tensions such as the shape of self made nuclear shelters during the Cold wars, rising unemployment and social tensions.

As computers and the Internet have become more mainstream, more and more homes are adopting the DIY method due to the increased accessibility of the Internet. Platforms like YouTube and Instagram give people the opportunity to share their work and teach others how to duplicate DIY techniques in their own home.
