On Movieholics And The Films We Should Never Miss

Are you a person whose mind fills with joy and excitement when the light goes down in a movie hall? Do you feel that rush of delirium while the lights slowly fade, darkness fills the whole space and you eagerly wait for a beam of light from the projector to light up the big screen? Only a true movieholic can relish this experience to the fullest. For them, a good movie opens a door in their heart and they love to revisit that door again and again. And they know, like good books a good movie grows with them, expanding their perspectives as they grow older and guiding them with deeper insights through this journey known as life.

All the movie buffs have their favorite directors, genres, and films. Sometimes they are so much hitched to the works of a master director that his/her films and filmmaking style become their dope. They might binge-watch all their movies, learn the dialogues by heart and find happiness in the way each frame and scene is crafted. Even after finishing the movie, they will look for various analyses of the movie and collect all the information about the filmmaking process, enriching their knowledge about films and their technicalities. Once in a while they encounter something new, maybe a genre they haven't tried yet, sometimes it could be a director and his films they never heard of, or it could be experiences they never imagined which would be unfolding on the screen. And thus another journey begins through the world of cinema. The barriers of language and geographical boundaries melt away and they are enlightened on how human experiences and emotions are the same everywhere, binding them close to the soul of the universe.

This blog is intended to introduce to you some of the finest films that left a deep impression on my mind, though I don't consider myself a chronic movieholic. Despite watching them some long time ago, they sometimes pop up in the mind, all of a sudden, out of nowhere. I happen to stumble upon some of them in various film festivals, some of them were recommended by my friends, and some turned out to be real surprises while I decided to watch random movies while I had nothing else to do.

So here goes my first suggestion: ‘The Wailing’, a South Korean horror film released in 2016. It has a thrilling and engaging plot that would make you glued to your seat till you finish watching.

The Wailing (South Korean, 2016)

Everything was going fine and well in that small village in South Korea. Trouble started after an old man came to the village. That's what the villagers say. Mysterious deaths and disappearances became the talk of the village and suddenly the place is not short of rumors about the old man and his house. Who is he? Is he a demon? Is he possessed by an evil spirit? What is the reason behind all these strange occurrences?

And that's what the 'Wailing' is about. This is not the classic horror flick with lots of blood and gore and cliché jump scares. The Wailing is a skillfully crafted deep layered piece of art blended with mystery and horror, enough to send chills down your spine. If possible, do find it and try to watch it. The film is also available on Amazon Prime.

So see you guys with another movie. And do let me know if you liked ‘The Wailing’.
