The Tulsi plant is a perennial herb with a typical aromatic scent. It is native to India and parts of North and East Africa, Hainan Island and Taiwan. It grows up to an altitude of 5900 m. In India, dried leaves, dried seeds and whole dried plants are used individually in traditional medicinal systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Indian folk medicine.It is widely used as a herbal tea, commonly used in Ayurveda.

Tulsi Scientific name: Ocimum tenuiflorum.

Tenuiflorum is the botanical name of Tulsi.The name of the spices is sanctum or tenuiflorum.Tulsi is classified as part of the magnoliopsida family, which includes flowering plants.

Characteristics of Tulsi plant:

Tulsi plant has unique taste and properties.It is harsh and bitter.

Tulsi plant has mild, drying, pungent properties.

Every part of the Tulsi plant is useful-Leaf, Root, Flower and Seed.

Medicinal uses:

  • Natural immunity Booster
  • Reduces Fever (antipyretic) pain(analgesic)
  • Reduces cold, caugh and other respiratory disorders.
  • Tulsi leaves boiled with tea can be used to prevent Malaria and Dengue.It is also effective in reducing fever in children.

  • The anti-inflammatory properties of Tulsi help flush out toxins from liver.It also reduces the formation of fats in the liver and keeps it safe.
  • Drinking water mixed with tulsi daily can  prevent the formation of kidney stones when the calcium and uric acid in the body increases.
