In democratic countries, the media is considered on the fourth pillar to keep an eye on the activities of the legislature, executive, judiciary. Media is the main dissemination of information and a platform for free exchange of ideas. 

In the present time, the utility, importance and role of media is increasing continuously. Due to globalisation media has came to centre stage. Especially, co-operate culture, new liberal development promoted media alot. The role of the media includes not only finding solutions to the problems faced by the nation but also educating and informing the people of the force and to promote critical awareness among the people. Earlier the media that traditionally carried factual news but today the whole ideological line is broken.In the past, many such examples have been seen which show that their inclination is more towards commercial interest than the pursuit of truth. 

Where the media has contributed to the increase in public interest by making the public aware boldly, exposing corruption, logical control over power and public interest but also got tarnished by getting traped in the web of greed, fear, hatred, competition, malice and political viciousness. Exploitation of others by blackmail, passing on to hot news, distorting news, publishing riotous news, giving double meaning to events and statements and also flatter the ruling party out of fear or greed. Unnecessarily many unfair acts like praising and glorifying someone and criticizing others are being done by the media nowadays. 

Exaggerating accidents and sensitive issues, ignoring news related to honesty, ethics and courage. The behavior of media creates chaos and imbalance in the society. 

Media provides various types of leadership to the society. Media should be present in the role of motivator so that society and government can get inspiration and guidance. Media is also the protector of the interests of different sections of the society. Different section of the society get information about the various events happening all over the world through the media. Therefore, media should present the information objectively and in the right context. 

Looking at the multifaceted role of media, it can be said that today the media has emerged in both destructive and beneficial roles. Now the time has come that the media should use it's power properly in the public interest and guide the society so that in future it does not become and issue.
