Hi friends and fam! How are you all? I am good. Thank you all for supporting my blogs. Today I am back again with three more stories from our Hindu Mythology.

Let's get started….

Story-1 : The Broken Tusk.

Long ago, Sage Veda Vyasa sought Ganesha's help in writing the epic Mahabharata. God Ganesh had a condition that once he began writing, the sage should not stop reciting at any time. Veda Vyasa also had a condition; Ganesh had to understand the meaning of each word before he wrote it. Thus, the great epic Mahabharata began to take shape.

Whenever the sage felt tired or ran out of words, he came up with difficult words so that Ganesha would take time in understanding them (there are several such verses in the Mahabharata and they are called Vyasa's breaks). At one point, Ganesha's pen broke, so he broke off one of his tusks and used it as pen. That is why we see Lord Ganesha with one broken tusk. In all, Veda Vyasa composed around 60 lakh verses, of which nearly 8,800 were difficult for Ganesha to decipher. Only the sage and his son, Sugam, knew the meanings of those verses.

Story-2 : Lord Ganesha's Vehicle.

Krauncha, a Gandharva, was a musician and was also headstrong. One day, sage Vamadeva visited Indra's court. There they wished to exhibit his singing talent. Unfortunately, he did not have a melodious voice and Krauncha laughed at him and humiliated him. The sage cursed Krauncha that he would lead the life of a mouse. Krauncha apologized, but Vamadeva said that he couldn't revoke his curse. So he blessed him that as a mouse, he would hold a revered position. Krauncha turned into a mouse and soon wreaked havoc at Sage Parashara's ashram.

The sage prayed to Lord Ganesha for relief. Lord Ganesha caught the mouse and was about to crush it when the mouse told him his story. The mouse offered to be Ganesha's servant forever. Lord Ganesha took pity on him and said that the mouse or Mooshikam would be his vehicle from then on.

Story-3 : Lord Ganesha helps Lord Karthikeya.

Nambirajan was a tribal king. One day, he found a baby girl lying under a tree. He took her home and named her Valli. Years later, Sage Narada saw Valli and told Lord Karthikeya, son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, about her. When Karthikeya saw Valli, he wanted to marry her. He decided to speak to her, but just then, Valli's brothers arrived there and he was unsure about their reaction. So, he sought his brother, Lord Ganesha's help.

Karthikeya took the form of an old tribal man and asked Valli if she would marry him but he refused. Meanwhile, Ganesha arrived in the form of an elephant and Valli was terrified. She ran to Karthikeya for help, saying that she would give him anything in return. Karthikeya asked for a promise to marry him and took care of elephant. They exchanged garlands and suddenly, he transformed into Karthikeya. King Nambirajan then celebrated the wedding of his daughter Valli, with Lord Karthikeya.
