It was my first evening at Nairobi , Kenya where I was on a wildlife journalism project commissioned by GlobeGeo India . 

After extensive wandering in the African Savannahs, I was extremely hungry, looking up to a sumptuous meal ,but terrified to know that on offer was solely a game meant platter , with no greens whatsoever. I knew that I had to eat well and so I out on food- hunt.

The weather was inclement and I walked on the dark street with no eateries in sight . Thanks to the international roaming that I had activated on my phone network , I found the app ‘Wedgewise’ and located the GPS coordinates of a vegetarian friendly restaurant ‘carnivore’ ( yes, ironically that was the name!) Two miles away. 

I had no clue that it was going to change my entire experience of being a veggie on prowl!!

I walked into a quaint restaurant, to be greeted bya courteous server. In basic Swahili language that I had been trying to learn, I asked for vegetarian food . He presented me a set of menu cards  that detailed how traditional meat dishes that could be turned vegetarian !!

In broken English he went on to explain how native Kenya food was predominantly greens- based  until a few decades before the advent of western restaurants in the country and shift in taste of the eating-out population to meat dishes , including the characteristically African ostrich meat. We talked about food and life in Kenya , his beloved city of Mombasa and my enthusiasm to explore more of wild Kenya. 

I finished my hearty meal of Ugali ( a cornmeal porridge , and the most vegetarian of the preparations that I could located on the menu ) and a banana dessert . He gave me a lively handshake and a souvenir of wild goat hooves .

Since that day in 2016 I trust Wedgewise - an app which tracks vegetarian food wherever you are in world , as my SOS to escort me to authentic vegetarian food during many of my footloose jaunts around the globe. 

I really thank that app for helping me out with such a huge problem !! 

Without food we can't survive !

Some apps like this really help us a lot about our problems regarding hotel bookings, tourism, food at the place and many more !!

I wish we had more apps like this which I had use to make things easier while travelling !
