A philosopher was passing somewhere with one of his disciples. While walking they came near a field. The farm was situated in a good place, but seeing its condition, it seemed as if its owner did not pay any attention to it.
Well, both of them were thirsty, so they reached in front of a dilapidated house in the middle of the field and knocked on the door.
A man came out from inside, with him were his wife and three children. Everyone was wearing torn clothes.
The philosopher said, "Sir, can we have water? I'm very thirsty!"
“Sure!” said the man, handing them a jug of water.
“I see that your field is very big but no crop has been sown in it, nor fruit trees are visible here… so how do you make a living?”, asked the philosopher.
“Yes, we have a buffalo, it gives a lot of milk, we get some money by selling it in a nearby village and by consuming the remaining milk, we make a living.”, explained the man.
When the philosopher and the disciples were about to move on, the man said, "It's enough evening, you guys can stay here tonight!"
Both agreed to stop.
Around midnight, when everyone was sleeping soundly, the philosopher picked up the disciple and said, "Let us go from here now, and before we go we will kill the man's buffalo by hurling it off a cliff."
The disciple could not believe the words of his guru, but he could not even cut his words.
Both of them disappeared overnight after killing the buffalo!
This incident sat in the mind of the disciple and after about 10 years when he became a successful entrepreneur, he thought why not meet the same man once again to repent of his mistake and help him financially.
He reached in front of that field in his shining car.
The disciple could not believe his eyes. The desolate field had now turned into a fruit orchard… In place of the dilapidated house stood a splendid bungalow, and where the lone buffalo lived in captivity, there were many good breed cows and buffaloes grazing their fodder.
The disciple thought that maybe after the death of the buffalo, that family must have gone somewhere after selling everything and to return, he started his car when he saw the man from ten years ago.
"Maybe you didn't recognize me, years ago I met you.", said the disciple moving towards the man.
“No-no, it is not, I remember well, you and your guru came here…how can I forget that day; That day changed my life. You people left without informing but on the same day our buffalo also died after falling from the cliff. For some days I did not understand what to do, but I had to do something to live, so I started selling wood after cutting it, if I got some money, I sowed it in the field… Fortunately the crop turned out well, the money I got on selling it He got fruit orchards set up and it went well and at present I am the biggest fruit trader in the nearby thousand villages… Really, all this would not have happened if that buffalo had not died!
"But you could have done the same thing before?", the disciple asked in surprise.
The man said, "Of course you could! But then life was going on smoothly without much effort, I never felt that I have the ability to do so much, so I did not even try, but when the buffalo died, then I had to kill my hands and feet and also a poor person like me. Reached this point.”
Today the disciple had understood the real meaning of that instruction of his guru and was able to return without any remorse.
Friends, sometimes we get so used to situations that we learn to live in them, even if those situations are bad!
We hate our job but still spend our life holding on to it, so many times we don't think of a new business just because our existing business takes out the cost of lentils and bread! But in doing so we never realize our full potential and miss out on doing many things that we have the capacity to do and which can make our life much better.
Think, there is no such buffalo in your life which is stopping you from living a better life… Somewhere it is not that you feel that you have tied that buffalo while in reality that buffalo has tied you up. Is! And if you think so, go ahead… Dare, cut your rope; Be free… you have little to lose but a whole lot to gain! Go get it and show it!
