In 998 AD the Turkish conqueror Mahmud Ghazni succeeded his father and establish a huge Empire in Central Asia.He made Ghazni as capital the present day Ghazni in Kabul. He was 27 year old the first ruler to get the title of sultan which means authority. He attack India 17 times during the period between 1000 - 1027 AD.
The brave hind Rajput tried to defend the temple when enemy tried to get inside it. The Hindus fought very bravely and initially the enemy could not damage the temple. However after 3 days of fight Mahmud Ghazni troops were successful in plundering the Somnath temple in which scared idol linga was destroyed. Ghazni looted all the treasure inside the temple which was at that time worth of 20 million Dinar (more than 8 time of what he had collect in his first inasion. Around 5000 Hindu die during the last invasion(Hindu hated Ghazni).
In each invasion of any India dynasty he carried the buck of vast wealth with him. he was consider the great Islamic hero . With Ghazni invasion the economic condition of India weakend. huge wealth was looted out of the country. Through his invasion did not show any Systematic efforts to conquered the sub continent it led to a foundation if Turkish rule in India and his conquered opened the gate of india to be conquered from the north west Huge setback of Indian Arts , Articulture and sculpture due to demolition of Idol and Temple. Islam also gained a major foothold in India after the attack.
Ghazni conquered specially the inclusion of Punjab and Afghanistan in his Kingdom made the Indian frontier weak. This made easier for other Afghan and Turkish ruler to Enter India into the Gangetic Valley at any time.
