Review of Ponniyin Selvan 2: When renowned director Mani Ratnam agreed to take on the project of Ponniyin Selvan and bring it to the big screen, everyone knew he had a huge responsibility on his shoulders. Mani Ratnam has directed films like Dil Se, Iruvar, and Guru. Many people have enjoyed and continue to appreciate Kalki's renowned book, which is still widely discussed today.
If that wasn't enough to draw my attention to the books, the multiple girls in my class at school who were given the name Nandini as a result of the novels served as a regular reminder of how the 1955 novel continues to have an impact on families. It was clear from seeing Ponniyin Selvan 1 that Ratnam was under pressure to deliver on people's expectations.
Where the first portion left off, the second section picks up immediately. A mute woman named Mandhakini (Aishwarya Rai) saves Arunmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi) and Vallavaraiyan Vandhiyadevudu (Karthi), who fell into the water during a battle with the Pandyas. Arunmozhi Varman afterwards receives treatment from Buddhas in Lanka. In the meantime, a plot to overthrow the Chola dynasty is being planned by Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai) and the Pandyas.
At this time, the Chola dynasty's chieftains attempt to depose Aditya Karikaludu (Vikram) and install Madhuranthakudu (Rehman) as the new Chola ruler. What then transpired? Who is this Mandhakini, exactly? What's the secret behind Nandhini's resemblance to Mandhakini? Did Vallavaraiyan Vandhiyadevudu and Arunmozhi return to the Chola dynasty? Who ultimately gained the upper hand? The solutions are in the film.
In Ponniyin Selvan 2, Ratnam takes the time to explain their relationship to the audience. When the climax approaches, you will be able to identify with Nandini because of what motivated her hatred of Aditha, how she affected the throne's actions, and her origin story. In the follow-up, he also makes an effort to give you a greater understanding of the scheming and the significance of each troop in the conflict.
Review of the film Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2: Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 by Mani Ratnam continues the story's ill-fated romance between crown prince Aaditha Karikalan (Vikram) and Nandhini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), which was set in motion in the previous part. The director of PS2 shows us the blossoming of love between a prince and an orphan girl, as well as the heartache it leaves in the wake of them being separated by factors beyond their control, without saying too much through dialogue. PS2 opens with a prelude that depicts their romance when they were young.
In fact, up until the story's finale, this doomed romance keeps the story's suspense high and propels the protagonists to take actions that have broad repercussions. Karikalan is unwilling to decline an invitation to the Kadambur palace, where his own chieftains plotted to assassinate him, although realising that doing so could be foolish. His sister, Princess Kundhavai (Trisha), is motivated by the intrigue surrounding Nandhini's ancestry. In the end, the Pandiya rebels, who have sworn an oath to avenge Karikalan, whose romance resulted in the assassination of their monarch, are repelled by the youthful prince Arulmozhi Varman (Jayam Ravi).
