People who are naturally obese.  They have very few options when it comes to losing weight over time.  Many people have found a growing sense of failure and hopelessness and helplessness after failure from one diet to another for the vast majority of their lives.

A common misconception when it comes to morbid obesity is that they did it themselves and if they don't want to be overweight they won't.  While this is good in theory, it is not always correct in practice.  There are some medical conditions that can result in a person being unable to control the weight they have gained.  There are also environmental issues that can also affect a person's weight.  It is ironic that alcoholics and drug addictions are treated in many cases and viewed with more compassion than obese people.

Surgery is a major surgery and there is no option that can be taken lightly and without thinking.  Most people find that weight loss surgery involves a major change in before and after lifestyles as well as a new way of eating which is a lifelong commitment.  Due to the life changing changes that occur as a result of this surgery, it is recommended that those receiving the surgery have a BMI that is over 40.  This means that it is recommended for men who are over 100 pounds and women over 80.  More pounds.

You should weigh the benefits and risks of a surgery carefully, before deciding that this is the action you need to perform.  The risks from this surgery are very good and you should not ignore in desperation to lose the weight you have wanted to shed for so long.  Nutritional deficiency occurs in approximately 20% of those who have received such surgery as a result of insufficient nutrients.  This can cause you to have osteoporosis and other conditions as you age.  Complications can occur from surgery itself.  Consuming too many or the wrong types of foods can cause you a lifelong problem, and there are some who only find that weight has returned in time to achieve their goals.  Like anything in life, there is no guarantee of weight loss surgery.

To determine whether this surgery will be beneficial for you, you want to ask yourself the following questions.

Is my weight hindering my day to day activities?

Is my weight the cause of other secondary conditions that may be harmful to my health?

Is my weight something that I honestly feel I can control on my own?

Can I commit to a lifelong outcome and follow it?

The problem with most people who resort to weight loss surgery is that they cannot take back control of their body.  The chances of a good candidate for weight loss surgery losing his own design are very slim as he tried and failed every diet in the books.

Only you can determine whether weight loss surgery is a viable option for your weight loss needs.  If you decide that this is something you are interested in learning more about, be sure to thoroughly discuss possible outcomes with your physician.
