Humility Is What Makes A Person 'Great' From 'Big'

On this Saturday, 'Hanuman ji' was seen picking up the sofa set. As it rained heavily on Friday night, he was busy arranging seating arrangements for the devotees coming to watch Ramlila in the ground, Sanskar Manch organized an eight-day long Ramlila in Ujjain, MP. A few hours later, the same person was seen lifting the entire mountain to save Lakshman's life. The only difference was that he was not in his Hanuman costume while lifting the sofa, it was not only with Hanuman ji, all the actors playing the characters of Ramayana, whether Ram, Vibhishana, Lakshman or Ravana himself also did not have this feeling. That they were artists. Some chef was cleaning the floor, some people were wiping the stage and some people were dusting the props for the stage like mountain or garden. He was working like the rest of the general staff of the theatrical team and was engaged in arranging the facilities for the devotees who came to see the stage that night. Seeing his humility, in which there was no sense of superiority that he was Rama or Hanuman, I bowed my head from a distance. Today in Ujjain, the Prime Minister will dedicate 'Mahakal Lok' to the name of the country while narrating the glory of Shiva, two days before his visit I had gone to Ujjain. Seeing the simplicity-grounded attitude of these artists, I was reminded of another artist, coincidentally today is his birthday. Yes, you know right, Amitabh Bachchan has turned 81 today. Megastar Amitabh went through many ups and downs in a career spanning five decades. He is still counted among the biggest actors of Hindi cinema. The man who gave many classic and memorable films like Shahenshah, Sholay, Agneepath, Paa, knew that stars were not made to sit quiet even though his wife had asked him to do so on KBC's show. Most of us judge success by the number of decades that man's career spanned. Of course Amitabh is ahead in that too. But I will never forget how he handled situations when he was criticized at work! I will never forget the height of his humility, which I encountered not once or twice but many times. His secretary Rosie Singh used to live in a building near Amitabh's house 'Pratiksha', I used to go to that building everyday on my way back from Nariman Point. When I got out of the building and got back into my car, I always saw a huge limousine coming to drop Rosie. It was an everyday scene, the driver would silently stop the car without letting anyone in, get off his side, go to the other side and open the door for a living. After this, closing the door comfortably, he would go back to his seat and sit. If at the same time I was reversing my car, he would have waited calmly and if I had indicated that it might take a few seconds, he would have smiled and gestured that you take your time.' That's because that driver was none other than Amitabh Bachchan himself. I was always surprised to see his own secretary abandon himself despite having dozens of drivers, and in doing so he never showed ordinary people like us who he was, or the stardom he had. Fundamentally, 'big people' become 'great people' because they stay humble all their lives and stay grounded.
