How to relieve back pain fast

When a person has back problems, they can be confused about which treatment options to choose to relieve the pain. Of all musculoskeletal conditions, back pain is one of the most unforgiving problems, causing chronic pain, reduced productivity and other problems. This article discusses back pain and what treatment options work best for most people.

Back discomfort is omnipresent. In the United States, by age 40, he has an 80 percent chance of having at least one significant episode of back pain. Back pain is not only common, but it is one of the most painful conditions a person can experience and it greatly affects the quality of life.

In my 35 years of chiropractic practice

I have seen thousands of people who have experienced back pain. One thing they note is that their condition almost always limits their ability to function normally in everyday life. Simple things like sleeping, working, housework, raising children and getting dressed and cooking are difficult if not impossible.

When dealing with this life-changing disease

You are faced with a myriad of treatment options. Specific therapy for possible back surgery may include medications or a referral to a back doctor. Care should be taken while taking medicines for back problems. Back pain is the number one reason people are prescribed opioids. Half of all opioid overdose deaths in the United States involve the use of prescription opioids.

Chiropractic

However, chiropractic care is another approach to lower back pain relief. Chiropractic is a safe alternative treatment for back pain relief. Chiropractors do not prescribe drugs or perform back surgery. Instead, chiropractors take a conservative approach.

When a patient initially visits a chiropractor

He or she is examined for possible spinal misalignment and improper movement. Research has shown that most back pain is caused by mechanical misalignment and movement of the bones of the spine. Chiropractors are the only professionals trained to diagnose and treat the physical, mechanical and alignment problems of back pain. Most patients who visit chiropractors find the treatment to be a safe and pleasant experience as it corrects deep spinal misalignments and relieves muscle tension and spasm. The number of treatments and visits a patient needs to get relief from back pain depends on the duration and severity of the disease.

 A 2013 study published

In Spine magazine found that patients who saw a chiropractor were less likely to undergo back pain surgery. Researchers studied 1,885 injured workers in Washington state with back pain and found that the health care provider the patient initially went to significantly affected the patient's likelihood of surgery. People who went to a doctor's office for back pain were more likely to have surgery than those who went to a chiropractor. About 43% of medical patients require surgery compared to only 1.5% of chiropractic patients. This means medical patients were 28 times more likely to undergo surgery.

Since the vast majority of patients with back pain can be treated without medication or surgery, safe, gentle chiropractic care seems especially reasonable for back pain relief.
