Time Is Money

How much of our time do we waste doing unproductive things? Does all that cost us money? How can we make better use of our time? These are questions many of us ask ourselves and the ones with bosses and clients. There is a lot of research on how much time we spend on our phone, for example, but what about the rest?

We asked a group of people to keep track of all their time spent over one week; it turns out that on average:

· Women spend 1 hour 45 minutes more per day than men.

· People under 24 years old spend more time watching TV than any other age group.

· The unemployed spend 2 hours less per day than those who have jobs.

· The less educated spend less time working and more time sleeping than the more educated.

The people in the group spent an average of 17 hours on the phone per day. This accounted for about 30 hours and 31 minutes out of a total of 168 hours over that week. It isn't surprising when we consider how much time we spend on our phones throughout the course of a normal day, but it is interesting to see where people are spending their time in general.

There were a wide variety of responses for each answer and the average is just that, an average. Some people spent only an hour on their phone per day while others spent over four.

What else did we find out? While there are a lot of factors they varied the most when it came to gender. Women spent an average of 13 hours and 41 minutes doing the household chores while men only spent 11 hours and 6 minutes. And when it came to sleeping women got 2 hours less sleep than men on average, 7 compared to 5. Despite all this extra time some still felt as if they weren't spending enough time on their hobbies, socializing or family.

There is a clear divide in this regard. Is it something to ponder? Possibly.

This article is not intended to criticize anyone's choices or habits, neither is it intended to give any tips as to how to raise money. I simply wanted to put forward some information out there so that we can get a better understanding of the circumstances. Hopefully it will help somebody at least a little.
