Career. The most important choice a student has to make and if that goes wrong, whoops! A lot of things can go wrong.
The Society wants to push you down and they can go down to any level to do that, to stop you from prospering.
All you have to do is, calm your mind and derive a conclusion based on your opinion and what's really good for you because ultimately it's you who has to cross the bridge that you chose.
Another reason why this is important:
When you take your decisions based on someone else's opinion then if things do not work out you have someone to blame and that's exactly what you do. You start blaming the person and then the What if? scenario starts.
What if I had listened to my heart? What if I had taken that opportunity? What I had dropped out of college and started my business? What if…?
On the other hand, if you take a decision based on your opinion whilst considering the opinion of others and choose what YOU think is the best then the regret factor will never arise. You won't have anyone to blame and there will always be a What if? but you won't feel the burden because you chose it and were not forced by someone.
To understand this better, here's a short example:
“Which college do you want to attend?”
“Some college in Mumbai."
"Mumbai? Do you know how much you will have to travel everyday?"
“Yes, I'll manage. How difficult can it be?”
“Its easy for you to say so. Have you seen Mumbai local during weekdays? You'll have to travel during peak hours. It's not even safe. Look for a college close by. You will save time and energy and will be able to focus on your studies.
The daughter looked at her parents as she no longer knew what to say.
Her parent smiled at her, looked at the person and said," Yeh bhi sahi hai. Result aane ke baad dekhenge."
Fast forward after results:
She had made up her mind that somehow she will manage. The worst that can happen is she will fail, won't be able to adjust but she was ready to give it a shot. She thought, Better an Oops! than a What if?
Her parent took her on a tour to the colleges on her wishlist, familiarized her with the routes and supported her decision.
The forms were filled and she was shortlisted in the very first merit list.
The People: Dekha, maine bola tha naa yeh karlegi.
Moral:
There is a phrase ‘Suno Sabki, Karo Apni'
You might not always be right, but you may not be wrong either. So the solution to this is have an opinion, listen to what others have to say, evaluate and then derive a conclusion.
Consider opinions that are relevant and apply 'the subtle art of not giving a f*ck' on the others.
Because, in the end there will be two types of people:
Type 1: Dekha, maine bola tha na :)
Type 2: Dekha, maine bola tha na :(
