There are many medicinal plants and spices which we use in our day-to-day life but don't know their medicinal properties or importance. One of them is Black pepper. Black pepper is a flowering vine grown for its fruits, which is usually dried and used as a spice and seasoning. The pepper plant is a perennial woody vine growing up to 4 meters (i.e 13 feet) in height on supporting trees, poles, or trellises. The leaves are alternate, entire, 5 to 10 cm long, and 3 to 6 cm across. The flowers are small and the fruit of the black pepper is called a drupe and when dried it is a peppercorn.
The fruit known as a peppercorn when dried is approximately 5 millimeters (0.20 in) in diameter, dark red when fully mature and like all drupes, contains a single seed. Peppercorn and the ground pepper derived from them may be described simply as pepper or more precisely as black pepper when cooked and dried unripe fruit, green pepper the dried unripe fruit, and white pepper the dried ripe seeds.
Black India. Currently, Vietnam is the world's largest producer and exporter of pepper, producing i.e 34% in the percentage of the world's pepper crop as of 2008.
Dried ground pepper has been used since antiquity for both its flavor and as a medicine. Black pepper is the world's most traded spice. It is one of the most common spices added to European cuisine and its descendants. The spiciness of black pepper is due to the chemical piperine. It is ubiquitous in the modern world, often paired with salt.
The very plant has a local name by which it is available in the market and a scientific name by which it was invented. The scientific name of black pepper is Piper nigrum. It belongs to the Piperaceae family, kingdom Plantae.
Along with this black pepper is a powerful antioxidant, boosts nutrients absorption, good for digestion, and prevents Diarrhea. Still, more research is needed.
As it's said everything has some benefits along with some side effects, anything exceeding its adequate value has its effect.
Black pepper also has some side effects when used more than its adequate quantity. Having a large amount of black pepper or taking a high dose of black pepper may lead to adverse side effects, such as burning sensations in the throat or stomach
