Happy Doctor's Day.. But are the doctors really happy? I can't conclude on that coz am not a front line warrior but I'm a dentist and lot of my friends and colleagues are playing an important role in today's pandemic. So this blog is on their behalf… Are we treating the doctors properly?
I would say a big "NO" because we see so many video clips in which male and female doctors are being abused physically and mentally. Not just during this pandemic, but during their days as a student , as an intern, as a duty doctor, as a chief medical officer and so many more..
During my days as an intern, I've seen patients mock at us because we are dentists and not doctors. So, Are dentists way lesser to be treated than doctors? I thought only dentists were being ill-treated but there are so many instances that my friends who've completed their MBBS have shared with me and I've felt heartrending.
Doctors are selfless humans who do not think about themselves , their health, instead place the society first than every other thing that's going on with their life. If the doctors were on to go for a day's strike, how many deaths should we have to face, how many surgeries will be cancelled, how many foetus won't make it into the world, how many people's life will go in vain because of road traffic accidents.. Have we thought about all of this?
"MEDICINES CAN CURE DISEASES BUT DOCTORS ONLY CAN CURE PATIENTS".
Of course there are exemptions in this profession just like every other profession or field of work. They might account to 10% of the doctor's population but here this blog is specific to the other 90% of the population.
For instance you enter a classroom full of children aged 6-10 and ask them what they'd like to be in future, atleast half or more than half of the students would say they want to become DOCTORS. At that age, children won't choose to become a doctor because of money. So what else? Children sense that doctors save them from pain and they want to do the same for others.
So how may children are we stopping from becoming the future doctors just by passing them such inhumane messages and ill-treatment.
It's high time that we not only read and share about such incidents, rather realise and act accordingly.
