Our parents struggle to send us to great schools so that we study, get good marks, get a good job and finally, we are settled according to them, our teachers and other elders in society share the same perspective too none of them just can’t go beyond this since all belong to the same generation where this was the only way to succeed.
Do you know every year crores of students in our country sit for exams like JEE, NEET, and UPSC? And get themselves indulged in a rat race where competition is so high that either they have to give up or choose a different career field by compromising their dreams.
But the question arises why are so many people running this useless race where only a few passionate ones can win? The answer to this is quite simple – peer pressure, herd mentality, excuses.
Many people just want to compete because their friends are competing or simply because their elder siblings are doing the same, some of them are forced by their parents or relatives. On contrary, many just disguise their unemployed status in the veil of these exams so that they have an answer if asked what they are doing?
This situation is nothing but the result of what we as students have learned from our schools. Our parents and teachers always glorified the idea of getting good jobs and earning money. None of them ever taught us how do we follow our passion, no one taught us to admire our unique talents and grow them to create something different in future. This is the reason why only 5 percent of people are successful and if you carefully analyze their journeys you will find one thing common in all of them which is their individuality, they didn’t follow anyone else except their hearts.
Today most of us don’t take any risks to grow in our lives because we live on society’s approval if society approves your choice you follow it and if it doesn’t you kill your dreams. Unfortunately, this society doesn’t know any other profession than doctor or engineer which of course everyone can’t do.
In my opinion it is not bad to prepare for a competitive exam but you should be passionate about it, an exam like UPSC is responsible for giving us a great IAS officer who should be interested in serving the country, not the one who just gave an exam to enjoy the post and the amenities. You should try to be different and follow your heart and natural talents to be successful, in this way you will inspire others to do so. Cracking an exam just because it is an ideal career choice according to society and following your dreams both are hard in current scenarios but the difference is you are forced to follow one and you are passionate about one. What would you choose?
