Hello friends in my previous blog I discussed about social responsibility and the causes for its growing concern in today's blog we will be talking about the criteria for determining social responsibilities. Responsibilities of a business have been justified on economic ,social and moral grounds. However difficulty arises when social responsibility is put into practice. Every business and company has to decide how much money and time they need to put in to fulfill their social responsibility. There has been no ideal formula which can help them decide or determine their social obligations towards society. However ,there are some guidelines which can help businesses to identify and accept their social responsibilities. Let's see them one by one.
1. Business is not meant for welfare alone: Business ,at the end of the day is mainly an economic activity with an aim to earn profit. Businesses should not be expected to serve the society alone they must serve the business owners and the people involved in doing it.
2. Must maintain a balance between social power and social responsibility: Businesses should be held responsible in the areas where they can legally claim authority. Any business enterprise has social responsibility to the extent it enjoys social power. Social responsibilities of a business should be balanced with the social power it enjoys.
3.Raciprocability: Just as the businessess are responsible towards their customers employees ,shareholders Government and the general public in a similar way each of these groups also a responsibility towards the businesses.
4.Bigger the business, bigger the responsibilities: the more bigger the business becomes the more it expense and the more number of people it attracts it becomes answerable to them and its social responsibilities too grow in size. For example ,a shop owner may just have its social responsibility limited only to the locality it is based in, but I use business like D- Mart which has its branches all over India has much more bigger social responsibility. So the bigger a business becomes the bigger its responsibilities are.
5.Involve in activities which it can manage: A business must choose it's social responsibilities wisely. It is best recommended that businesses should accept and emphasize those social responsibilities which they can manage the best. It is advisable to them that they do not except responsibilities where any kind of political environment is present.
