Above the law means “When somebody thinks they’re so important that they don’t need to obey the laws, which are the set of rules through which any country regulates the whole system. Politicians above the law mean that when politicians think they are superior to the law, so the laws are not supposed to be followed by them.

People of a country abide by the laws, but sometimes it feels that the politicians who are in power play with the laws to gain their benefits. They think that

“They make the laws

They are above the law”

J. P. Joseph Maingo in his book “Politicians Above the Law” states that Over 70% of the world's nations spell out clearly in their constitutions that members of their parliaments or national assemblies are protected from the criminal process.

Politicians in India have often considered themselves above the law. There is a huge list of scams In India like Coal Mining Scam, 2g spectrum Scam, Waqf  Board land scam which proves that the politicians were found not guilty of corruption.

To become An IAS officer requires hard knowledge but to become a politician you are not supposed to even have the basic level of education. Whenever a politician goes somewhere, officers stand up to welcome him.

There are many examples of Officers like Gautam Goswami, Durga Shakti Nagpal, and Ashok Khemka which make you think that how much power a minister have.

In the article by the New York Times in 2013 they describe that how Corruption soars when politicians are placed above the law.

Sometimes the politicians take advantage of their position and mistreat others. There are many cases when we have seen them Misbehaving with Citizens. Based on money, they just want to buy everyone who comes in their way.

“Political leaders are not above the law. They are not God or someone who can claim a right to be in contravention of laws.” 

This line by the Bombay high court indicates that the law is definitely above all. No matter how much corruption is there in politics, Everyone has faith in the law that there will be justice one day.

If any politician tries to go above the law, we have Supreme Court which keeps an eye on those things which are going against the law.

The blindfolded “Lady Justice” represents impartiality, the ideal that justice should be applied without regard to wealth, power and another status. Whenever someone tries to move beyond the law, he has always taught him a lesson in law.

We have seen so many cases in which in the end law wins. At this time, many politicians are behind the prison if they are above the law it wouldn't happen.

Having a thought that you don’t need to follow the laws just because you have power, is the biggest illusion. Laws are the major Pillars that regulate the whole system of a country without regard to wealth, power and another status.

Politicians are representatives of the public. The public elected leaders because they are the ones who propose, support and create laws or policies that govern the land and its people.

If a politician does something wrong and the law does not punish him for his wrongdoing, then the public will lose faith in the law. We all know that the law is equal for all. Everyone is exposed one day or the other, that is why we must not break our faith in the law.

At last, we could say that “The law is permanent while the leader is powerful only during his tenure”.
