Whereas certain locations are perfect for a wonderful vacation, a select few are, well, just locations that you will never forget for the rest of your life. I believe Chopta to be one of these locations. Chopta, a hidden gem in the Garhwal Himalayas, is a lush green wonderland with towering mountain ranges, plush meadows, and breathtaking views. It's undoubtedly one of those places to which you can easily open your heart. Chopta is not just another site you choose for a vacation; it is much more. It is a trekking and camping destination as well as the home of a sacred shrine. Here are some compelling arguments for visiting this one-of-a-kind location.
The highest Shiv temple:
Although it doesn't occur to you right away as you slog your way up a partially paved road to the Tungnath Temple, after you start breathing normally again and take in the splendour of this monument, you realise that you are at the tallest Shiva temple in the entire world! (And my God, I just wrote the longest sentence I've ever written. At 3680 metres above sea level, Tungnath Temple is a wonder unto itself; there is simply no way to match its beauty and atmosphere. The site of Lord Shiva's hands falling in the form of the bull is believed to be Tungnath, which is about a thousand years old. While making the walk to Chandrashila, you cannot miss the temple, which stands out as one of Chopta Valley's major attractions.
Always a good time to visit:
After the devastating flash floods of June 2013, tourists are reluctant to book trips to Uttarakhand's highlands during the monsoon season. Yet, hey! Things are improving; the roads have been repaired, and safety precautions are being implemented. In addition, Chopta Valley is beautiful throughout the year and in all seasons. Monsoon, on the other side, boosts flora, and winter, well, it just magically transforms Chopta into a fairytale country when summer comes packed with warm sun and lovely nights here. Following your heart is the best course of action, but don't ignore the news or the weather prediction if you're planning a trek here.
Beautiful view:
Chopta is unquestionably insanely gorgeous. Once you're out here, there's a good possibility you'll want to buy a little villa and use it as your future retreat. Mother Nature is waiting at Chopta to embrace, caress, and strengthen its link with you as she gazes upon the sweeping Garhwal Himalayas, velvety meadows, and calm air.
