Have a nice day friends!

Bodhidharma was born as a prince in the Pallava kingdom of South India.  He was the son of the king of Kanchipuram.  But at an early age he renounced his kingdom and princely indulgences and became a hermit.  At the age of twenty-two he became fully enlightened.  He was then sent as an envoy to China.  When the news of his arrival spread, Emperor Wu himself arrived at the borders of his empire, arranged a grand welcome, and waited.

When these monks arrived, tired from the long journey, Emperor Wu was very disappointed to see them both.  An enlightened person knew something was coming and expected something but the person who came was just a boy of twenty two years.  Bodhidharma, tired from a few months of travel in the mountains, was not really attractive.

It was Bodhidharma who brought Zen to China.  Gautama Buddha taught dhyana or meditation.  Hundreds of years later Bodhidharma brought meditation to China.  There it became Chan.  This Chan traveled to Indonesia, Japan and other far east Asian countries where he became Zen.

After being kicked out of the empire by Emperor Wu, Bodhidharma went into the mountains.  There he gathered some disciples.  They used to meditate in mountain caves.  Sleep is the biggest enemy of meditators.  Legend has it that Bodhi Dharma once fell asleep while meditating, and cut off his eyelids in anger.  His eyelids fell to the ground and became the first tea plant.  The monks were then supplied with tea to prevent sleep.

Where did this myth come from?  The hill where Bodhidharma lived after meeting the emperor is called Tai or Chai.  When they went there the monks probably boiled some of the leaves Bodhidharma found in water and drank them to stay awake.  Then they can sit and meditate all night.  Thus tea or chai was invented.

The real problem is not water pollution, the real problem is water scarcity
With America and Europe talking about river water pollution, it has become a topic of interest all over.  But we must not ignore the most serious problem facing our rivers.
